Picture This…

Pictures are worth a thousand words, or so they say!

Moye, a talented photographer, documented my work during a recent trip to Lagos, Nigeria – and also “what she saw” as a first time visitor to West Africa. She has a masterful eye for capturing the essence of just about anything. I enjoyed watching her witness tiny, little minute slices of Nigeria.

Unique is hardly sufficient to describe just how differently we perceive the sights, sounds, smells and feeling of what is before us.

Imagine if we could really understand what someone else pictures from behind their mind’s eye. You will not see what “Mary Jo” sees:  her filter, aperture, experience, expectation, etc. etc. are set differently from yours. This is obvious, and yet we still hold to an underlying belief that if we talk enough, we can get others to grasp our way of thinking and seeing the world.

How do we capture what we perceive or envision? We often say “I’ll just put it out there”.  There are a million different ways and angles it will be received —

Picture that!
