And Just Like that, the Fog Lifted

Ahhhh, springtime! As I write this blog, I’m sitting in Deep Creek Lake where a few of us gathered for our Metamorphosis Retreat.

“Take that picture,” said Alice, one of our retreat guests, as we opened the day to a beautiful sunrise over the valley – the days before had been foggy, more on that later.

I took the photo, saying, “Oh, I’ll use this for a blog”. And now, here’s what the same photo looks like today.

And Alice, who watches TV and social media trends said, “And Just Like That The Fog Lifted”, naming… and in some ways framing, the blog with me.

Well here goes the blog:

Throughout the journey through western Maryland’s mountain range, we were surrounded by a dense fog that seemed infinite.

And then, yesterday, as if someone had just decided upon it, it lifted.

Isn’t this a beautiful metaphor for life?!

One day the fog is so thick we can cut the seeming disharmony with a knife. And then, we can wake up and think “It’s no use going back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” (Alice In Wonderland)

And in a twinkling of an eye, we can decide “it’s enough”.

We can choose to think, feel, and act differently. It can be a permanent decision ‘from now on I make xyz kind of choices’ or it can be something we choose for the present moment – only.

Whichever way it goes, you hold the reins.

You have no control over the weather outside, no control over your boss, fellow workmates, or adult family members.

How it impacts you is a different matter.

You’ve heard it before: you have power over your own thoughts. And that’s a massive opportunity – if we only acknowledge how accurate that simple statement truly is …

If we truly believe, how could we not practice uplifting self-talk and an empowering self-image … but, it does take practice.

Outside of yourself, another way to help you to lift your fog is to follow this advice from The Mad Hatter: “The secret, Alice, is to surround yourself with people who make your heart smile. It’s then, only then, that you’ll find Wonderland”.

Well,  I certainly know it helps!

My fog lifting advice …

Make your own heart smile in any and every way you can!
