Martisor!

I recently found out that March 1st was the first day of the year – according to the ancient Roman calendar.

It is celebrated as ‘Martisor’ in Romania. My friend Loredana, shared her native tradition and this photo with me. It symbolizes the return of spring, faith and hope for a brighter future. Thousands of years worth of world cultures are steeped in traditions that honor life, death and everything in between.

So much of our time is outwardly focused and I often think how wonderful it would be for us to have individual celebrations beyond our birthdays – celebrations ‘just because’.

Imagine a holiday with your name on it … once a quarter, once a month or on a weekly and daily basis if you’re really feeling grateful and happy to be alive.

So, here’s your assignment (should you choose to accept it!) Before the end of this month, please do yourself a favor by designating a couple of hours – or a full day if you want to be bold – within the next thirty days that are solely for you – just sit, and be, or go treat yourself in an extra special way. Then, let someone else know what you did for yourself and encourage them to do the same.

Here’s to your Martisor!
