What’s Your Thing?

I was both intrigued and smiling as our plane moved toward our designated gate in Amsterdam. I have seen the well-known Dutch bank, ING’s jet bridge ads for several years – but this time, thanks to the long taxi in, I noticed how widespread the “do your thing” message actually is for everyone. Each gate we passed called to a different segment, encouraging them forward: sisters, superheroes, entrepreneurs, adventurers, changemakers … do your thing!

I did a quick search a few days later and discovered that their new branding campaign launched in 2020 “… and is about encouraging people to do more of the things that move them. It is about people being free to focus on what matters most to them knowing that, whether in their private or professional lives, they can make the world a little bit better for it.”

Very good, right?

I know little about their bank, but I hear “do your thing” as a really impressive and inspiring message that has a powerful impact on just about everyone. No matter who you are, what your life vision is or what you do, “do your thing” can speak volumes – if you’re listening and open to it.

Do you have a repeatable, personal tagline, inspirational strategy or nugget? If not, I strongly suggest that you scribble one out (then refine, and refine as needed). Imagine what incorporating a few short action words into your thinking and feeling patterns can do for your daily attitude and approach to life. Let it serve as both a clarion call AND a road map when you are faced with uncertainty or insecurity.

When you whittle down all the wisdom you have come across from any source and create your own personal pick me up or north star; you’ve found an invaluable way to fuel the change you need to move within wherever you are and toward wherever else you want to be.

Keep your eyes open for the messages reminding you that you are in control of how you think, what you repetitively say to yourself, and what you feel. Although what you do may not always be a choice you would make, it doesn’t stop you from doing YOUR thing.

Take your personal tagline into your day … and always do your thing!
