Well-Being

As we look back over this past year, we have had to redefine or reconfigure just about everything. Because of the upheavals, we are speaking more about well-being than ever before. There are extra layers of concern around well-being that, for many, has already been front and center.

It doesn’t matter how you are described in the workplace, at home or in society; chances are high you have experienced as much, if not more, about what it means to not have a sense of well-being. This is partly because we may find it hard to recognize our symptoms, feelings and experiences as being part of what is considered the exact opposite of well-being.

One definition of well-being is “the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.” How does one get there? What journey, steps or practices takes us to this state of being and, what does it take to spend more time there than not?

A true assessment and awareness must start somewhere. These five do’s and don’ts of well-being at least define connection, activity, learning, giving and kindness, and mindfulness as some basic pillars.

I often hear professional women say that it is the safe power of an intimate community of like-minded friends that brings them the extra support and sanctuary they treasure. We need each other. And, we have come to realize that now more than ever.

Make every effort to understand ALL aspects of well-being. Work toward recognizing not only what it is and is not, but also be aware (as best you can) of how those within your support bubble and work environments are coping. Stay alert to their needs too.

Well-being is like a pot of gold – treasure it!
