Winding along the waters of Lagos, Portugal revealed the most exquisite caves and grottos. The names of these natural structures were mostly symbolic – the one above is called The Telescope.
Telescope in Greek means ‘far seeing’ which literally describes how it functions. When we peer through a telescope, we illuminate and bring into focus or magnify something that is otherwise harder to see.
Imagine how much we would learn if we were to focus and shed light on that which we cannot see clearly … at least not as yet!
Telescopic vision would perhaps invite more appreciation. Maybe we would be less critical if we could actually see the details. We might be awed, or even intimidated by what’s before us.
We don’t know what someone else is going through. We don’t often have access to the minutia of what it actually took to produce a thing; accomplish a service; perform an act of kindness or bravery.
Using the idea behind telescopic vision would invite us to pause, for brief moments, before we speak, and save misunderstandings. Considering the consequences of your actions is an opportunity to reroute your pathway choices. Thinking twice, might allow you the space to explore higher or wider ground.
Whether in your personal or professional life, remember the lessons of the telescope and be guided by the light that it may shed upon your attitudes, choices and decision-making.
