It Takes A Village

Too many of us don’t reach out to our villages – especially when we’re struggling with a challenge that we don’t know how to face. And, there are times when help is truly needed, but we hold back from asking for it.

I was inspired by Aisha’s (my niece) decision to create a series entitled It Takes A Village. She did so to help raise funds for her son EJ – a delightful little 4-year old who is a math wizard, autistic; and, who was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that may cause blindness in his teenage years. His mom wanted to be proactive by purchasing a Perkins Braille Machine so that she could prepare him … just in case. Aisha reached into her village, created the beautiful braille-styled artwork above, Power, Pray, Peace & Love and offered them for sale. Her village not only fully embraced her, but she also touched them with EJ’s story.

Whether at home or at work, what creative solutions can you come up with, just by including your village? Whether you could benefit from a one-on-one, a group of like-spirited friends or colleagues, there’s a solution and help, just for the asking.

Your choice to seek help not only supports you, it gives others the courage to do the same. Your decision empowers members of your community in ways that draws upon their strengths.

It teaches, demonstrates and honors our mutual interdependence. And, it can cut through the loneliness that millions of people experience on their jobs and in their homes too.

During our current situation, we’ve had a second look at the significant roles our teams and family members play in our success and fulfillment. This has given us a greater appreciation for inner circles, fellow workers and our communities.

When it takes a village – engage them!
