How to “Climb Every Mountain, Ford Every Stream & Follow Every Rainbow ‘Till You Find Your Dream”

Now this blog title is the longest title I’ve ever created … yep, straight out of The Sound of Music.

Most of us have one eye on the holiday season and the other on the brand-new year ahead. Let’s look at the ‘other’ first.

You’ve heard that, for the most part, people do the exact same things and think the same thoughts day after day. And you’ve likely heard the warnings that if you don’t take action – make changes – you’ll find yourself in the same position a year from now as you are today.

But REAL change is scary stuff, yes?! And we hum and haw, try a tad bit, give some lip service, and do what feels a whole lot more familiar and comfortable to that part of our mind which controls our habitual behaviors – our trusted autopilot.

We sit back, relax and consciously and subconsciously think and feel:

“Ahhhh, yes, this is soooo much easier than overexerting myself by trying something new.”  Sure, you know what I’m talking about – I see your nods. And it is exactly this feeling that makes me appreciate this song’s message as much as I do. It encourages bravery, rather than complacency. And, in case you think I’ve got it all together; I’m speaking to myself too, I’m right there with you!

Let’s dissect the song a wee bit so we can hear a little more direction.

Climb every mountain – move with whatever effort it takes to achieve what’s before you.

Ford every stream – you have to cross over any obstacles on your own two feet.

Follow every rainbow – look up for the colored, water-kissed sunlight.

Till’you find your dream – and then keep going until you get what you want!

Here you have it – one idea of what to work toward for the coming year: Move your feet high and low, as you look up (and within) for inspiration; and, let your heart fuel both your journey and your destination.

Now, with the business out of the way: focus on moving toward the holiday season with as much joy and gratitude as you can create; write your own mantra on a card and read it out loud each day, feel it in your heart and move in the direction you are called to take.

Keep your eyes on the present(s)… climb, ford, and follow – till’ next time,
