Beyond the Gate

You don’t know exactly what you will find behind any door until you push it open. Same thing goes for wrapped presents and life.

We are often afraid it is not what we are looking for or somehow what’s inside the package will disappoint us. You never really know until you get there.

I recently saw this rickety, white wooden gate. The area housed a not so attractive holding place for maintenance and landscaping supplies. From the elevated angle from which I stood, I could see the beach and the beautiful blue, calm sea just beyond the gate. And, it occurred to me how often we let what we perceive as inferior outer packaging keep us from delving a little deeper – especially if we are not standing from a place that gives us a hint of what lies ahead.

Some of the best things in life are hidden just beyond our view. Fairy tales tell us that handsome princes were initially presented as ugly green frogs.

Be a little more adventurous – dive into a new experience and by all means open the gate!
