I have never been fond of artificial flowers. The “silk flowers” version looks much better now. Sometimes you have to go up and touch them to check if they are real or not. Perhaps it is my own quirk, however, I feel a slight disappointment that the arrangement I so admired was actually artificial. There’s nothing like real, is there?
I was driving along in Bethesda, Maryland and was surprised to see the sight of artificial flowers planted in real soil. I had never seen that before. I am sure the owner has her reasons for her garden choice.
However, it did lead me to ponder how often we plant artificial ideas and behaviors into the soil of our own thoughts and actions. If they are artificial they can’t possibly lead anywhere and grow, right? Yet, we take the time and trouble to work at being other than who we are and trust no one will notice we are not being real to our true selves.
Traditionally, summer is a good time to plant—so consider well what you put into the fertile soil of your own garden.
