In my not-too-distant past, I found myself shrinking at the thought of what it would take to say yes to new, bigger possibilities. When I asked myself about how much I needed to grow, I realized I had become hesitant and fearful of what would be required of me to step outside my own self-defined comfort zones.
If you relate to what I have felt before, I invite you to also answer the key question I had to ask myself: What do I really, really want, and what is my true purpose? Not just for myself, but for those I am called to serve.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting bigger and better. More doesn’t necessarily depict lack of gratitude or the presence of greed.
Look at the natural world. More is a continuous cycle of growth, decay, change, renewal and more growth.
Each of us has the capacity to make daily decisions about how much of virtually anything is ours if we know how to obtain or create it.
And we all have two essential choices.
We can lean toward expansion, envisioning what we want, and affirming our ability to act and ultimately have it.
Or we can contract and succumb to the fear that we may not have the capacity to even hold on to what we already have, never mind the opportunity to have more.
Questions about job security, challenged relationships, or health that leaves us hanging on by a thread, can give us pause to wonder about our true capacity for growth and stability.
We also realize that we don’t always know how to intentionally and sustainably grow what we want. Or we don’t understand what it takes to measurably increase capacity in any major area of our lives.
I was listening to our rich and lesson-packed National Speakers Association webinar today, and both Phil M. Jones and John Register remind us to always be a student.
Learning as a never-ending task and goal helps us fill the gaps and supports us to make the shifts needed to get from where we are to where we want and need to be.
So, I repeat my question to you: What do you really, REALLY want and what is your true purpose?
Answer those questions as fearlessly as you can.
… Choose to grow!
